San Diego Legion & Legacy Laces Team Up for Cleat Drive at Cal State Games Rugby Tournament

(SAN DIEGO, CA) – The San Diego Legion, a Major League Rugby team, and Legacy Laces announce a new partnership dedicated to providing cleats for those in need to participate in team sports. The Legion will host Legacy Laces at the California State Games youth rugby tournament the weekend of July 13-14 at Walnut Grove Park in San Marcos, CA.

“We are excited to be working with an amazing foundation like Legacy Laces again this season,” added Ashley Otte, Executive General Manager of SD Legion. “Our players and staff have supported Legacy Laces from its beginnings and are thrilled to introduce them to the California State Games in an effort to increase support and grow awareness of the great work they provide the greater San Diego Community. We encourage athletes of all ages to donate their cleats, new or used, to allow kids the ability of having proper footwear to participate in sports.”

All tournament participants, family, fans and members of the community are encouraged to donate game-ready cleats on July 13-14th during the Cal State Games youth rugby tournament. Turf and futsal shoes are also welcome. Please ensure that your donation has no rips, tears or excessive wear. Donors are invited to share a short note to the future recipient of their shoes by using the notecard found here (www.legacylaces.org/sharemystory).

“We are overjoyed to have the opportunity to team up with San Diego Legion for this two-day cleat drive!”, says Jeanette Wood, Executive Director of Legacy Laces. “Like Legacy Laces, the Legion believes in giving back to the community; and with both organizations sharing a strong desire to help bring more kids and teens into the world of team sports, our partnership is sure to bring about positive results.”

Established in 2017, San Diego Legion is part of the professional Major League Rugby (MLR) organization, one of seven founding teams in North America. Our mission is simple, to introduce the culture of rugby to the local community and provide a conduit for education, inspiration and leadership through the sport.

Legacy Laces was founded to ensure there would be a way to bring excess, outgrown and/or unused gear to underprivileged kids so they would have the opportunity to play team sports and benefit from all that athletics has to offer. For more information, please visit www.LegacyLaces.org.
